Noble and rebel. With a strong legacy yet innovative, in homage to his name that not incidentally brings to mind one of the proudest reigns of Medieval Spain. Gaetano Navarra is just like that. He is the creator of a concept of elegance and of a style attitude that are multi-faceted and original, rock-solid and yet full of poetry and enchantment. This leads to extraordinary results in a process for the offer of a full 360°-lifestyle, and incredibly engaging one.
Of his hometown, Bologna – where he was born on the 17th of September 1968 and where, as a matter of fact, he still lives - Gaetano Navarra absorbed the most cutting-edge cultural movements and most of all, a propensity towards experimenting, which led him along a singularly consistent creative path when coupled with his passion for elegance, imbibed through his family business in which he began as a young boy, learning the tricks of quality production processes.
A tendency for research was the catalyst in pushing Gaetano Navarra to create his first knitwear prêt-à-porter collection, presented from 1986 to 1991 at Milano Collezioni. It was a brave yet rewarding choice: success came immediately, and his name entered the category of excellence in the new Italian style set. Not casually, the top models of the time – from Naomi Campbell to Kate Moss, Carla Bruni and Linda Evangelista – suggested taking the truly innovative knitwear signed Gaetano Navarra on the catwalks.
1992 was the start of the happy cooperation between Gaetano Navarra and the Gruppo Genny, which was to last eight years: he became part of the design team and was made head of the line. Meanwhile, in 1995, the designer has been named for two years Artistic Director of the Spazio Tendenze at Pitti Filati.
On these grounds, the further development of the style project of Gaetano Navarra led to a real “lifestyle” demand, with the ensuing creation of the Men’s line, debuting in Milano Moda Uomo in the Fall/Winter 2004-2005 season.
June 2006 saw a further recognition of the relentless creativity of Gaetano Navarra through the award of the “La Kore. L’Oscar della Moda” prize, assigned during the tv show filmed in the unique setting of the Greek Theatre in Taormina.
